Oyebamiji Visits Tinubu Days After Losing Osun Governorship Election To Adeleke

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the recently concluded Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting was disclosed on Friday by Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who shared a video of the encounter on X.

Dada captioned the video, “President Bola Tinubu meets in audience Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate of the APC in the recently concluded Osun State gubernatorial elections.”

Oyebamiji’s visit occurred days after he was defeated by the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to emerge victorious, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes. The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, with the APC candidate taking 11.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday, August 16.

Following the result, President Tinubu congratulated Adeleke, saying his victory reflected the will of the people and demonstrated the continued growth of democracy in Nigeria.

On Thursday, August 20, Adeleke visited Tinubu at the Presidential Villa and presented his Certificate of Return to the President.

At the meeting, Tinubu urged Adeleke to demonstrate “magnanimity in victory” while working to foster unity, peace and stability across Osun State.

Speaking to journalists afterwards, Adeleke said his visit was to appreciate the President for permitting a free and fair election and for his contribution to sustaining democracy in Nigeria.
