Wike: 2027 Election Already ‘Walkover’ For Tinubu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 is already a “walkover”, claiming opposition parties have little chance of stopping him.

Wike made the claim on Friday, August 21, while speaking with journalists in Abuja about the recent visit of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to his residence.

The FCT minister also hinted at plans to assemble what he described as the “largest rainbow coalition” in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.

According to Wike, the political realignments ahead of the 2027 election would further strengthen the President’s position and make it difficult for opposition parties to mount a serious challenge.

“In the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see the largest rainbow coalition supporting President Tinubu,” he said.

Wike’s comments came a day after Adeleke visited him in Abuja alongside his nephew, Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Adeleke, who secured a second term as Osun State governor after a keenly contested election last week, has also declared his support for Tinubu.

Wike claimed that Adeleke was now on the side of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, following his recent political engagements, although the Imole Campaign Council had earlier dismissed reports that the governor was planning to defect to the party.

The meetings and subsequent political statements have fuelled fresh speculation about possible alliances and realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.

With the presidential contest just months away, Wike’s remarks signal the growing confidence within the President’s camp as political parties and potential contenders begin positioning themselves for the election.
