The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party has taken steps to mend internal cracks by setting up a reconciliation committee ahead of its elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The decision followed an emergency meeting of the BoT held on Wednesday, November 5, in Abuja.
According to a communique signed by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the committee’s mandate is to restore harmony among aggrieved members and ensure that the party presents a united front before the convention.
Ambassador Hassan Adamu from the North East will chair the six-member committee, while Chief Mike Oghiadomhe from the South South will serve as secretary.
Other members include Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East), Senator Zaynab Kure (North Central), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West), and Dr Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West). The team has until November 11, 2025, to submit its report.
The BoT reaffirmed its confidence in the Ambassador Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee and applauded the NWC, the PDP Governors’ Forum, and other party structures for maintaining internal stability despite growing tensions.
“The BoT solidly stands with and commends the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors Forum, the National Convention Organising Committee and other critical organs of the Party for their collective roles in stabilising our Party, especially as we progress towards the conduct of the Elective National Convention scheduled to hold on the 15th and 16th of November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital,” the communique stated.
The board also welcomed the recent ruling of the Oyo State High Court, which upheld the PDP’s right to conduct its internal affairs and proceed with the convention as planned.
“This landmark ruling is victory to Democracy, Rule of Law and political development in our country,” the BoT declared.

Addressing the recent invasion of the party’s national secretariat, the BoT described the incident as “unfortunate” and unreflective of the PDP’s democratic values.
“As the conscience of the party, the BoT cannot and will not take sides but remains focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and ensuring dialogue over discord,” the statement added.
It emphasised that reconciliation efforts were not a sign of weakness but proof of the party’s maturity and readiness to rebuild internal trust.
The meeting came at a time when tensions have deepened within the party following the forceful entry of loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, into the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
On Monday, PDP Deputy National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, backed by Wike, declared himself acting national chairman and pledged to “return power to the people.”
Meanwhile, the factional National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has moved to discipline certain party officials, including the suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
In a letter dated November 1, 2025, and addressed to INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Damagum announced the suspension of Anyanwu and four others for alleged anti-party conduct.
