PDP Crisis Deepens: NEC Meeting May Be Delayed as BoT Holds Crucial Closed-Door Talks

The deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cast fresh uncertainty over the party’s planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which may now be postponed to allow more time for reconciliation and internal consultations.

A highly-placed source within the party revealed the possible delay, stating: “The NEC meeting might be pushed back to give more time to settle these internal conflicts.”

This development follows a new wave of tension sparked by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s dramatic withdrawal from ongoing reconciliation efforts on Sunday. His exit has intensified concerns over the party’s unity and preparedness for upcoming political battles.

Wike’s move drew immediate backlash, with a PDP support group accusing him of double standards. “You are the real betrayer, not Mbah or Makinde,” the group declared, further escalating the internal war of words.

The turmoil comes amid growing signs that key opposition figures—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi—are exploring new alliances outside the PDP, fueling speculation of a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a bid to salvage the situation, the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) is holding a high-stakes closed-door meeting today. Many observers see it as a make-or-break gathering that could determine the party’s future direction.

The outcome of the BoT meeting is expected to either calm the storm or deepen the divide, as the PDP grapples with defections, internal mistrust, and a growing sense of disillusionment among its ranks.

Political analysts warn that unless urgent steps are taken, the party risks further fragmentation at a time when opposition coalitions are gaining momentum nationwide.
