The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the formation of a caretaker committee for its Abia State chapter, defying a court ruling that invalidated its national leadership.
The factionâs National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, released the statement on Monday, February 9, confirming the appointments.
According to the statement, the National Working Committee (NWC), acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), approved the committee pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended).
The nine-member panel will be chaired by Mr. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, with Chief Ochiobi Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr. Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Samuel Chukwudi Mike, Hon. Seth Agomuo, Mrs. Ugo Kalu, Barr. Obinna Nwaogwugwu, and Felix Nwagbara as secretary.
âThe Committee is charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the Party in Abia State, as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of our Partyâs Constitution for a period not exceeding 90 days or till such a time a new executive shall be elected,â the statement read.

Members are instructed to conduct the committeeâs activities in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.
The announcement comes despite a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan that nullified the PDPâs national convention held on November 15, 2025.
Justice Uche Agomoh ruled that the National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki and other officials elected at the convention lack legal standing to operate as the partyâs national leadership.
The court barred them from parading themselves as ânational officersâ of the PDP and affirmed that the Caretaker Committee headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the âonly recognised National Working Committee of the PDPâ until a valid national convention is held.
