Senator Gabriel Suswam has issued a stark warning about the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party could collapse before the 2027 elections if its leaders fail to take decisive action.
Appearing on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, May 13, the former Benue State governor painted a troubling picture of a party in deep distress.
“A lot of people are hanging on, waiting to see the ultimate end of this party,” Suswam said, adding that many members have already lost faith and fear the PDP might not survive much longer.
The party is currently caught in a leadership tussle over the position of national secretary. That crisis comes on the heels of a wave of defections, most notably in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and other prominent PDP figures recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Suswam said the PDP is now in a fragile state and likened it to a critically ill patient.
“Whether there is light at the end of the tunnel in the efforts made by Senator Saraki will be seen in the next two weeks,” he said.
“For now, I would say that PDP, is it in the hospital? Yes. Is it in the ICU to some extent? Yes, it is. Can it be rescued? Yes, if the proper medicine is applied.”
He was referring to the efforts by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is working alongside current and former PDP governors to hold the party together.
According to Suswam, the party’s survival now depends on whether that intervention succeeds. If it doesn’t, he warned, “then the chances of survival are very slim.”
