Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled coordinated attacks by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on three Forward Operating Bases in Borno State, killing several insurgents and recovering a cache of heavy weapons and ammunition.
The attacks, which targeted FOBs in Mayanti, Gajigana and Gajiram, occurred between the late hours of February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

At FOB Mayanti, a large number of insurgents launched a heavy attack on February 28.
Following the engagement, five insurgent bodies were recovered. Troops also seized three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, three RPG bombs and significant quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
Blood trails at the scene suggested additional casualties among the fleeing fighters. One officer was confirmed killed during the encounter.
In a separate attack at about 1:15 a.m. on March 1, insurgents armed with PKT guns, rocket-propelled grenades and armed drones assaulted FOB Gajiram. The troops, backed by air support, repelled the attack and pursued the retreating fighters.
The statement confirmed that three insurgent bodies were found along the withdrawal route. Recovered items included four AK-47 rifles, five anti-tank bombs, three locally fabricated mortar bombs, an armed drone, six fully loaded 7.62mm NATO magazines, barbed wire cutters, specialized ammunition and other equipment.
A wounded soldier was evacuated by a Nigerian Army Aviation helicopter for advanced medical treatment.
The attack on FOB Gajigana was also thwarted, with troops maintaining full control of the base.

In a related operations across Sector 2, troops engaged insurgents at Kayawa Village, forcing them to abandon a tricycle, three motorcycles and five bicycles while fleeing.
Soldiers also destroyed identified terrorist life-support structures and arrested two suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers.
Drugs and medical supplies believed to have been used to treat wounded insurgents were recovered.
Additionally, troops conducting an ambush operation around Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba Local Government Area neutralized two insurgents and recovered two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines and a bicycle.
The military stated that all affected locations remain under firm control, adding that the scale of the recoveries and confirmed casualties points to what they described as the continued degradation of ISWAP’s fighting capacity in the North East.
