Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralised two suspected bandits and recovered weapons during a clearance operation in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, carried out by troops deployed at Sarkin Kudu, followed credible intelligence received on May 18, 2026, regarding the activities of suspected bandits operating from a hideout around the Dooshima District in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Umar Muhammad, troops swiftly mobilised to the location and launched a tactical raid on the hideout.
It was gathered that the troops encountered armed assailants upon arrival, leading to a fierce gun battle. During the exchange, two suspected bandits were neutralised, while several others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, a locally fabricated pistol, one Android phone, three smaller mobile phones, two charm vests, and other personal belongings.
The military said the recovered items are currently in custody and would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary action.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their bravery and swift response.
He described the operation as part of ongoing proactive efforts by the brigade and in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to rid Taraba State and the surrounding areas of criminal elements.
Akaliro also assured that the brigade’s reward and sanction system would be applied to soldiers involved in the operation, while reiterating the military’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal activities across the state.
The brigade further urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
