Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have recorded major successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Borno State, neutralising nine Boko Haram terrorists and recovering about ₦5 million ransom money during coordinated patrols around Magumeri and Gajiram general areas.
According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page, on Saturday, and signed by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the operations were carried out on October 10, 2025, following credible intelligence on terrorist activities.
In the first operation, troops on fighting patrol responded to reports of terrorists moving in two vehicles with about 24 fighters around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area. The insurgents were said to be attacking locals and setting houses ablaze.
Acting swiftly, the troops advanced toward the area, prompting the terrorists to flee toward Damjiyakiri village.
After a four-hour pursuit covering approximately 92 kilometres, the soldiers engaged the fleeing insurgents in a heavy firefight, killing five of them while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered include one AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798), five magazines (two loaded, three empty), 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a dagger, and a mobile phone. No troop casualties or equipment losses were recorded during the operation.
In a related development along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, troops on motorcycles clashed with Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. During the encounter, four terrorists were neutralized while others fled into nearby bushes.
The troops also rescued two hostages — 55-year-old Modu Kinnami and 57-year-old Bukar, both from Guzamala — and recovered a sack containing ₦750,000, believed to be part of a ransom payment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the terrorists had earlier demanded ₦2 million and two new mobile phones for the release of a hostage’s relative.
Other items recovered included a blue pickup truck (Reg. No. GUB 327 XA), two new Tecno button phones, 30 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and an additional ₦4,355,000 in cash — bringing the total recovered sum to approximately ₦5 million.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba said further operations are ongoing across all sectors to sustain pressure on the terrorists, deny them freedom of movement, and ensure continued security across the North East.
He commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the region.
