Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have thwarted an ambush by armed bandits and rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated operation in Kogi State, marking another decisive step in ongoing efforts to curb violent crimes in the state.
According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the operation was carried out on Tuesday.
Abdullahi stated that the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that bandits were moving abducted persons through the Oshokoshoko–Obajana corridor in Lokoja Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the troops from the Kabba Patrol Base, operating in conjunction with other hybrid security forces, launched a special ambush mission to intercept the criminals.
According to the Army, the troops made contact with the bandits, who opened fire in an attempt to break through the ambush.
The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to retreat in disarray.
One bandit was neutralised during the exchange, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle at the scene and successfully rescued one kidnapped victim, who was found weak and traumatized.
