Tributes are pouring in across India following the death of beloved Bollywood icon, Dharmendra Krishan Deol, who passed away in Mumbai at the age of 89.
Leading the nation in mourning, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute on Monday, the 24th of November, 2025, marking the actor’s passing as “the end of an era.”
The Prime Minister took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to reflect on the actor’s monumental legacy:
“The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played… Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti.”

Dharmendra, who was born on December 8, 1935, in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, achieved stardom despite his humble beginnings.
Over a remarkable 60-year career, the legendary star appeared in more than 300 films, establishing himself as one of the country’s most cherished screen personalities. His acting prowess spanned genres from romance and action to comedy and drama. He remains best known to many as the character Veeru in the blockbuster 1975 classic, Sholay, which cemented his status as a household name.
