The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals following a raid on a residential property in the Ota area of the state over alleged involvement in a Ponzi scheme, visa fraud and other immigration-related offences.
The suspects were apprehended on August 4 at about 11am by operatives of the Atan-Ota Police Division after the command received intelligence about alleged fraudulent activities being carried out at the location.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, police operatives moved swiftly to the premises, secured the building and arrested the suspects for questioning and further investigation.
Babaseyi disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta that the 23 foreign nationals were suspected of engaging in fraudulent activities, including an alleged Ponzi scheme and visa-related scams.
He said that following preliminary investigations, 21 of the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5 for further investigation and appropriate action regarding their immigration status.

The remaining two suspects, however, were retained by the police in connection with alleged Obtaining by False Pretence and other related offences.
The police spokesperson said investigations were still ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged fraudulent activities and establish whether other individuals were involved in the scheme.
The command assured that further action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
