Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced his two-week annual leave, using the break from official engagements to read, study and reflect on issues relating to leadership and public service.
Photographs released by the Presidency on Monday showed Shettima reading books during his time away from official duties.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said the Vice President’s decision to dedicate part of his leave to reading reflects his commitment to continuous learning.
“As predicted by many, during his two-week leave, Vice President Kashim Shettima, by custom, takes time for study and reflection,” Nkwocha said.

He described the period as “a time to read, reflect, and learn,” adding that stepping away from the pressures of daily responsibilities allows leaders to consider ideas more deeply and return to their duties with renewed clarity.
“Leadership is sustained by the willingness to keep learning… For the Vice President, the period is also an opportunity to deepen the knowledge required for continued service to Nigeria,” he said.
Nkwocha added, “Learning does not end when responsibility begins. In many ways, greater responsibility makes learning even more necessary.”
Shettima began the two-week leave on August 7 and is expected to resume official duties around August 20.
