The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) stolen at gunpoint during an intelligence-led operation in Akure.
The arrest followed a swift investigation by operatives of the Akure Area Command in line with the operational directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the crime-fighting strategy of the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu.
The incident occurred on July 23, 2026, when armed men allegedly attacked a victim, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, at Advic Resort in the Alagbaka area of Akure and robbed him of his Lexus RX350 SUV.
This was disclosed in a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the victim reported the incident the following day, prompting detectives attached to the Akure Area Command to launch a comprehensive intelligence-driven investigation.
The operation led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle at the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo Campus axis, where it had been abandoned by the suspects.
Further investigations culminated in the arrest of two suspects, identified as 31-year-old Adeoba Precious and 30-year-old Oluwapelumi Babayemi, on July 25.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery operations within and outside Ondo State.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

A search of their hideouts led to the recovery of a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jerk knife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max, all of which have been taken into police custody as exhibits.
The command said forensic and technical analyses are ongoing as investigators work to strengthen the case and identify other members of the gang.
Commending the operatives, Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu described the operation as another testament to the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.
He assured residents that the police would continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The commissioner also disclosed that investigations were ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate, recover additional exhibits and ensure that all those connected to the criminal enterprise are brought to justice.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, assuring that all intelligence received would be treated confidentially as part of efforts to enhance security and protect lives and property across Ondo State.
