Police Arrest Two Suspected Cult Kingpins, Recover Firearm In Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult kingpins and uncovered a hideout in Ondo Town as part of intensified efforts to curb cultism and violent crime in the state.

The operation, carried out by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) in Akure, followed credible intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Wednesday, the arrests were made on April 11, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, stated that the suspects are believed to be members of the notorious Eiye and Aiye confraternities, groups long associated with violent clashes in parts of the state.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a cult-related confrontation that occurred on April 9, 2026, at Adeyemi Federal University of Education.

The clash reportedly involved rival groups and posed a threat to public peace and safety within the institution.

Police identified the suspects as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi.

Following their arrest, the duo cooperated with police and led operatives to a suspected Aiye cult hideout in the Oka Garage area of Ondo Town.

A search of the location led to the recovery of a locally made English pistol, which police believe may have been used in criminal activities.

The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. Police say efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the group and recover additional weapons that may still be in circulation.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s determination to eliminate cultism and ensure perpetrators of violence face the full weight of the law.

He also commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation, urging residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information.

In addition, the Command expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his leadership and support, noting that his guidance has strengthened ongoing security operations in the state.

The Police reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property, encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through appropriate channels.
