The Kano State Police Command has established a direct link between the horrific killing of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi and an earlier double murder recorded in Tudun Yola.
The Tudun Yola attack took place in November 2025, when unknown attackers allegedly broke into a residence, murdered two women who were co-wives, and set the house on fire. The incident sparked fear across the community, as no suspects were immediately identified and investigators were unable to determine those responsible at the time.
New evidence has now surfaced following the arrest of suspects connected to the Dorayi Chiranchi killings.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the 18th of January, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, those apprehended in the Dorayi case admitted their role in the earlier Tudun Yola murders.
“The suspects arrested in connection with the murder of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi have confessed to carrying out the killing of two women in Tudun Yola in November 2025,” Kiyawa said.
The police identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu; Isyaku Yakubu, 40, of Sagagi; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, a resident of Sabon Gida, Sharada.

Speaking with journalists, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adam Bakori, stated that initial investigations had clearly connected both incidents. He disclosed that one of the Tudun Yola victims, who was secretly buried, was a close relative of the main suspect in the Dorayi case.
“Our initial investigation has confirmed a relationship between the Tudun Yola killings and the Dorayi case. One of the victims in Tudun Yola is the aunt of the prime suspect, Umar Auwalu,” CP Bakori stated.
The police added that investigations are still ongoing to fully uncover the circumstances surrounding both crimes and to determine whether additional suspects were involved, assuring residents that anyone found responsible would face justice.
