The Gombe State Police Command has unveiled a schedule of activities to commemorate the 2026 National Police Day, with a strong focus on improving public confidence and fostering closer ties between law enforcement and communities.
Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, made this known during a press briefing at the command headquarters on Friday.
He noted that the annual event, organised by the Nigeria Police Force, serves as a platform to showcase ongoing reforms, encourage community participation, and honour the sacrifices of officers in safeguarding the nation.
The 2026 edition is being coordinated under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who assumed office in February following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
Chuso explained that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” underscores the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in ensuring safety and security.
“National Police Day 2026 provides a valuable platform to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public, reinforcing our shared responsibility in building a safer society,” he said.
He revealed that the command has lined up a range of activities in line with directives from the Inspector-General to promote engagement and awareness.
According to him, the programme will begin on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleanup exercise stretching from the Central Roundabout to the Gombe Emir’s Palace.
A medical outreach will also be conducted at the palace the same day.
The following day will feature a walkathon, which will take off from the Police Command Headquarters.

“These activities are designed to foster public engagement, promote safety awareness, and enhance mutual trust,” he added.
Chuso further disclosed that on April 1, the command will organise sensitisation programmes at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, where issues such as electoral violence, ballot snatching, and road safety will be addressed.
On April 2, families of deceased police officers will receive cheques at the command headquarters as part of ongoing welfare support initiatives.
The week-long activities will culminate in a grand finale on April 7 at the Eagle Square Parade Ground in Abuja, where the Inspector-General of Police is expected to host dignitaries and key stakeholders.
The commissioner urged residents, community leaders, and members of the media to take part in the events, stressing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining peace and security.
“I therefore call on members of the public, community leaders, stakeholders, and the media to actively participate in these events.
Together, we can strengthen cooperation, deepen trust, and build a safer and more secure Gombe State,” he urged.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, stating that the Gombe State Police Command remains focused on delivering community-oriented policing.
