Police Foil Kidnap Attempt Of Chinese National, Arrest Two Suspects In Ogun

Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled an alleged plot to kidnap a Chinese national.

The officers also arrested two suspects linked to a planned ₦50 million ransom operation.

The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended on June 9, 2026, following intelligence reports about an imminent abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende Division swiftly mobilised surveillance and operational teams after receiving credible intelligence on the planned crime.

“Acting on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives of the Division, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis, where the suspects were promptly intercepted and arrested, thereby thwarting the execution of the planned crime,” the statement read.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to abduct a Chinese national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million.

The police further disclosed that one of the suspects, Onwuemena, allegedly used his position as an interpreter and driver within the victim’s company to facilitate the kidnapping plot.

“Further findings showed that Chinedu Onwuemena, who worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, allegedly exploited his position to facilitate the criminal plan,” the statement added.

The command said investigations have established that the suspects acted with another accomplice who is currently on the run. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover the full network behind the conspiracy.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
