The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Hamza Sama for his alleged involvement in an employment scam that reportedly affected over 175 job seekers in the state.
The police noted that the suspect, a resident of the KCC area in Birnin Kebbi, is accused of collecting money from victims by falsely claiming he could secure them jobs under the state’s school feeding programme in primary and secondary schools.
According to a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, on Sunday, preliminary investigations showed the suspect demanded N30,000 from each applicant as a supposed processing fee.
The PPRO stated that the victims paid the money after being assured that the recruitment exercise was genuine and approved by government authorities.
Among those affected are Shafa’atu, Yusuf Yahaya, Hussai Sani and Ubaida Abubakar, alongside over 170 other applicants.

Investigations further revealed that no such recruitment exercise existed and that the suspect had no approval from any government agency to conduct employment on its behalf.
Police said the suspect allegedly obtained a total of N5.2 million through the scheme.
He is currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The police warned job seekers to be cautious of individuals promising employment in exchange for money.
