The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says investigations are ongoing into Friday’s gun attack on Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the November 2025 Anambra election.
Ezenwafor was reportedly ambushed by unknown gunmen near Wuse 2, Abuja, and shot in both legs while returning from an engagement. Two others were also injured during the attack.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, July 20, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the police are still piecing together details of the attack.
“The police command is yet to conclude investigations as touching the true position and situation surrounding the incident,” she said.

“While investigation is currently at top gear, individuals or persons with relevant information are advised to come forward and report to the nearest police station. Your cooperation will greatly assist our investigation and help ensure justice is served.”
Ezenwafor, who emerged unopposed as the PDP’s candidate, is currently receiving medical care at a private hospital in Abuja. Doctors are reportedly preparing him for surgery to extract bullets from his legs.
Shortly after the attack, videos showing his injuries surfaced on a PDP campaign platform, with the wounded candidate expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal.
An aide to Ezenwafor confirmed the incident but declined to offer details. “Yes, it happened. But it’s not something I want to talk about now, please,” the aide said.
The attempted assassination has sparked outrage among political figures and support groups.
