Polytechnic Lecturers Applaud Tinubu As Ekiti Road Upgrade Eases Travel Woes

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Chapter has commended the Federal Government for the ongoing expansion of the Ado-Ijan-Ikare Road in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, which serves as the main access route to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.

In a statement made available on Thursday by the union’s Chairman, Caleb Adeosun, and Publicity Secretary, Oyewale Oyelola, ASUP-FPA also praised the state’s three senators—Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), Yemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South), and Cyril Fasuyi (Ekiti North)—for facilitating the rehabilitation of the road, which had been in a deplorable state for many years.

The union recalled that Senator Bamidele, the Senate Leader, had invited union leaders to a meeting at his constituency office in March 2024 following a protest staged by the polytechnic community, assuring them of government intervention.

“ASUP-FPA appreciates the efforts of the three senators representing Ekiti State at the National Assembly who amplified our concerns over the deplorable state of the polytechnic road. We particularly commend Senator Bamidele for his proactive engagement and support,” the statement read.

While lauding the senators for their role in ensuring progress on the project, the union urged them to continue oversight to guarantee quality work by the contractors handling the expansion.

The union also expressed gratitude to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for the construction of the Ring Road linking the Ado-Ijan Road to the Afao-Iworoko-Ado Ekiti Road. According to ASUP-FPA, the Ring Road has significantly reduced traffic congestion and travel time for staff and students of the polytechnic.

Additionally, the union commended Aare Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, for his consistent contributions toward the palliative rehabilitation of the Ado-Ijan-Ikare Road over the years.

The Ado-Ijan-Ikare Road, a federal highway connecting Ekiti State with Ondo and Kogi states, is critical for the movement of residents and institutions including Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, Ekiti Knowledge Zone, and Ekiti Cargo International Airport. Contractors recently commenced rehabilitation work along the Ado-Ijan axis, marking a significant improvement in the long-neglected route.
