Chelsea FC have been fined £10.75 million ($14.27 million) and handed a suspended one-year transfer ban after investigations into historical breaches of league regulations, the Premier League announced on Monday.
In addition to the financial penalty, the west London club has also received an immediate nine-month ban on registering academy players.
The disciplinary measures follow information submitted to the league by the consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly after their takeover of Chelsea from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2022.
According to the Premier League, its investigation revealed that between 2011 and 2018, several undisclosed payments were made by third parties linked to Chelsea.
The payments were reportedly directed to players, unregistered agents and other individuals connected to transfer dealings.

However, league officials clarified that even if the payments had been fully disclosed in the club’s financial submissions at the time, Chelsea would not have breached the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
The league also noted that Chelsea’s decision to voluntarily report the irregularities, admit to the breaches and cooperate fully with investigators were considered mitigating factors when determining the sanctions.
Meanwhile, the club is also facing a separate case after being charged by the The Football Association with 74 alleged breaches of its regulations, also linked to information provided by the club’s current ownership group.
The investigations are part of ongoing efforts by English football authorities to enforce transparency and financial compliance among top-flight clubs.
