Social commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has sparked fresh debate on gender roles and financial responsibility after sharing a thought-provoking message to men on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) account.
In his post, Omokri urged men to focus on achieving financial stability rather than pursuing romantic interests, suggesting that success naturally attracts admiration and respect.
“Dear men, you are the bill payer. You shouldn’t be doing the chasing. Why should you simultaneously be a chaser and bill payer? Is that not a contradiction?” he wrote.
Omokri further advised men to attain such a level of success that their reputation for financial capability speaks for itself. “Succeed to such an extent that your ability to pay bills is known and well established without you even having to say a word,” he added.

According to him, once a man’s financial standing becomes evident, he will attract the attention of those who once seemed out of reach. “When you achieve that renown, then what others desire to chase will in fact chase you. A bill payer is attractive to every slayer and is an answer to their prayer!” Omokri concluded.
The statement has drawn varied reactions online, with some agreeing that success enhances a man’s social value, while others criticized the perspective as reinforcing outdated gender expectations.
Omokri, known for his motivational and sometimes controversial social media posts, often uses his platform to discuss relationships, success, and societal values, drawing wide engagement from his followers across Africa and beyond.
