Abubakar Yakubu has been elected president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), narrowly defeating incumbent Rita Daniels in a tightly contested election held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, during the guild’s Annual General Meeting in Benin City, Edo State.
Yakubu won with 116 votes to Daniels’ 113, while three ballots were declared void, bringing an end to Daniels’ tenure as the guild’s national president.
The election, supervised by the AGN National Electoral Committee, saw participation from delegates representing actors’ chapters across the country, conducted through a combination of physical and electronic voting.
The result was publicly announced on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, confirming Yakubu as the new AGN president.

Following his victory, he pledged to strengthen unity within the guild, enhance welfare for members, and raise professional standards in the Nigerian film industry.
Daniels, who sought re-election for a second term, congratulated Yakubu and urged members to support the new administration to ensure stability and progress within the guild.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria serves as the umbrella body for film actors in the country, regulating professional conduct, advocating for welfare, and engaging with industry and government stakeholders.
