A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okechukwu Osohua, has issued a scathing assessment of the party’s November convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, labeling it a trivial “gathering of friends”.
Osohua made this sharp comment during an interview appearance on the Channels Television program, ‘Sunrise Daily,’ on Tuesday, the 9th of December, 2025.
He completely invalidated the event, stating: “As far as I’m concerned, it was just a gathering of friends, and I can even call it a Christmas Carol because it was not known to law; there was no convention.”
The Ibadan convention, which took place between the 15th and 16th of November, 2025, saw a faction supported by Governor Seyi Makinde take drastic action. During the event, the group moved to expel several key party figures, citing anti-party activities as the basis for the decision.

High-profile individuals affected by the expulsion included the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose; and Samuel Anyanwu, among others.
Following the convention, the group proceeded to issue a certificate of expulsion to Wike and the other expelled members, a move that deepened the existing divisions within the PDP.
However, Osohua insisted that the entire exercise was motivated by “selfish interest.” Furthermore, he questioned the legality of the administrative document used, arguing that the certificate of expulsion is novel and “unknown to the law.”
