The Rivers State Police Command has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that officers involved in the assault of Mr. Onyenkachi C. Clement have been dismissed from service.
In an update released via a video statement on her official Facebook page, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, clarified that the officers in question have not been dismissed, but are currently undergoing disciplinary measures.
According to her, the officers—attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit—are presently being detained in the police cell while investigations continue. She stressed that the police remain committed to ensuring justice and accountability in the matter.
The case stems from an incident on August 18, 2025, along Igboeche Road, Rivers State, where Mr. Onyenkachi was allegedly brutalized by officers over an expired tinted glass permit. Reports indicate that the officers demanded a sum of ₦1 million, which the victim could not pay, leading to the assault.
