The Senate has confirmed Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance following his screening and a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the approval after Senators spent more than two hours questioning Oyedele on his qualifications and vision.
He will replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been reassigned as Minister of Budget and National Planning (State).
President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, forwarded Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate on Monday, March 9, 2026, with the screening taking place two days later, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Addressing the Senate, Oyedele described the nomination as a call to serve Nigeria at a critical economic juncture.
“With over 20 years of experience across government, multilateral institutions, and the private sector, my work has focused on fiscal governance and economic transformation,” he said.

“This appointment is not about personal achievements; it is about serving Nigeria at a time of significant fiscal challenges and opportunities.”
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust and to the Senate for allowing him to present his vision.
Before his ministerial appointment, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a position he was appointed to in July 2023.
He oversaw a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax laws, a process that took over two years and culminated in a new tax regime that took effect on Sunday, January 1, 2026.
The reforms aim to boost revenue, improve the business climate, and attract domestic and foreign investment.
Oyedele’s confirmation forms part of President Tinubu’s broader cabinet reshuffle, underscoring the administration’s focus on economic growth and fiscal stability.
