Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Katung announced the move in a resignation letter dated Friday, 31 October 2025, which he posted on his verified X account around midnight on Saturday, 1 November 2025.
Addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Madakiya, Kaduna State, the senator said his decision followed consultations with political stakeholders, constituents, and supporters.
He explained that it was driven by evolving political realities and his desire to serve his people more effectively.
In the letter, he stated:

“I wish to formally convey my decision to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today. This decision, though deeply considered, was not made lightly. Over the years, I have remained steadfast in my commitment to the ideals of democracy, good governance, and service to the people, which the PDP has long stood for. However, evolving political realities within our nation and my constituency have necessitated a re-evaluation of the platform best suited to advance the aspirations and welfare of my people.”
Katung added that after wide consultations, he had decided to:
“align with the All Progressives Congress (APC), a platform whose current direction and leadership provide renewed hope for inclusiveness, stability, and sustainable development.”
He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded him over the years, noting that he valued the friendships and experiences gained while in the party.
Political analysts say Katung’s defection represents a significant shift in Southern Kaduna, a region traditionally considered a PDP stronghold.
