Six Osun Reps Dump PDP For Accord Party

Six members of the House of Representatives in Osun State, formerly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have defected to the Accord Party.

The defection was announced on Monday at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party held in Osogbo. Clement Akanni, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the defectors, predicting a landslide victory for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election. He urged party members to vote en masse and monitor the election process.

“After voting, with our projections, 80% of votes will go to Adeleke, while the other party will get 20%. We will win and all of us will be alive to witness it,” Akanni said.

Akanni formally introduced the defecting lawmakers as Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency), Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), Soji Adetunji (Ikirun Federal Constituency), Mudashiru Lukman Alani (Iwo Federal Constituency), and Lanre Oladebo (Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency), noting that all had moved to the Accord Party.

Governor Adeleke explained that his own defection to the Accord Party was guided by spiritual counsel, citing internal turmoil within the PDP at the time.

“I love PDP but I have to leave to escape being trapped for my reelection. We started consulting and praying to God over it.

We were guided into Accord Party. You see that the party is the first on the ballot,” he said, urging supporters to vote massively for the party to secure victory.

The event, attended by top government functionaries and large numbers of supporters, also featured ex-Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, who expressed confidence in Adeleke’s victory and called for dedicated support from party members.

With the defection of the six PDP lawmakers, Dr. Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate representing Osun West Senatorial District, remains the only federal lawmaker elected on the PDP platform in the state.

Adeleke had joined the Accord Party in December 2025 and secured its governorship ticket. Earlier, 25 lawmakers of the Osun State House of Assembly, elected on the PDP platform in 2023, also defected to the Accord Party, citing the need to continue serving their constituents effectively.
