Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared Tuesday, October 7, a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers across the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the governor’s directive in a statement issued on Monday in Awka.
She explained that the decision followed the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, which fell on Sunday, October 5. “In view of the fact that the 2025 World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday, Mr Governor has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers in the state,” the statement read.
Chuma-Udeh added that the Solution Parents League would hold a mega endorsement march in appreciation of Governor Soludo’s reforms in the education sector. The Association of Private School Owners is also expected to join the event.

“All teachers, parents, and proprietors/proprietresses are expected to assemble at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, by 8:00 a.m. prompt, to give honour to whom honour is due,” she stated.
Meanwhile, teachers’ unions and education stakeholders across the country have used this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations to draw attention to poor remuneration, inadequate teaching facilities, and slow policy implementation, urging governments at all levels to prioritise teachers’ welfare and deliver on promises made to the education sector.
