Sowore Accuses Senator Ned Nwoko, Police of Unjust Detention

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused Senator Ned Nwoko of orchestrating the alleged unlawful detention of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of actress Regina Daniels.

In a statement posted via his official X handle on Friday, Sowore alleged that Senator Nwoko, in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, influenced the imprisonment of Sammy West at the Keffi Correctional Centre in Nasarawa State.

According to Sowore, the incident reflects what he described as “an unholy alliance of impunity” involving powerful political figures, sections of the Nigeria Police Force, and certain judicial officers. He claimed that this alliance has continued to operate despite public criticism and calls for accountability.

“The victim in this latest act of tyranny is Samuel Ojeogwu, the younger brother of Nwoko’s now-temporarily estranged wife, Regina Daniels,” Sowore wrote. “It is deeply unfortunate that the unholy alliance of impunity between Senator Ned Nwoko, sections of the Nigeria Police Force, and some pliant magistrates continues to thrive despite our persistent challenge to their lawlessness.”

The activist called on the police authorities to immediately withdraw the charges against Sammy West and ensure his release, describing the allegations against him as “bogus.”

As of press time, neither Senator Nwoko nor the Nigeria Police Force had publicly responded to Sowore’s allegations.

The controversy comes days after the FCT Police Command confirmed the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu over alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, theft, and cyberbullying—charges that have since sparked heated debate across social media.

Sowore’s statement has further amplified public attention on the case, with many calling for transparency and due process in the ongoing investigation.
