Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen one place in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, dropping to fourth in Africa while retaining their 26th position globally.
The updated rankings, released by FIFA on Monday, July 20, saw Egypt overtake Nigeria to become Africa’s third-highest ranked team after the Pharaohs reached the Round of 16 at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria did not participate in the tournament after failing to qualify among the 10 African teams that featured at the global competition.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked nation and are sixth in the world. The Atlas Lions are now just one place away from matching the highest-ever FIFA ranking achieved by an African country — a record set by Nigeria in April 1994.
Senegal continue to occupy second place on the continent, while Algeria complete Africa’s top five.

At the global level, Spain have climbed to the summit of the FIFA rankings after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on Sunday to lift the trophy for the second time in their history.
Argentina, who were previously top of the rankings, dropped to second place, while France remained third.
England retained fourth place, with Brazil moving up to fifth. Portugal, however, slipped two places to seventh in the latest standings.
The revised rankings reflect performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which concluded over the weekend.
FIFA announced that the next edition of its men’s world rankings will be published on October 7.
