Nigeria’s Super Falcons have moved up one place in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, rising to 36th globally while maintaining their position as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s team.
The updated ranking, released on Tuesday, shows the 10-time African champions improving from 37th place in the December 2025 standings.
The rise was influenced by recent pre-WAFCON friendly matches against Cameroon, where Nigeria suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat in February before bouncing back with a convincing 3–1 win in March 2026.
Three days after the first loss, the Super Falcons responded with a more aggressive and organised performance in the return fixture to secure victory.
Nigeria women’s national football team levelled the contest in the 32nd minute through forward Chinwendu Ihezuo, who headed home a well-delivered cross from Rinsola Babajide.
Babajide then turned scorer just before half-time, finishing from close range after a scramble inside the box to give Nigeria a 2–1 advantage.

In the 64th minute, Michelle Alozie sealed the comeback win with a header from a precise delivery by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, completing a 3–1 result.
The performance earned Nigeria a 3.35-point increase, taking their total to 1602 points in April, although still slightly below the 1607 points recorded in December 2025.
On the continental standings, South Africa remain Nigeria’s closest challengers in Africa at 58th in the world, followed by Ghana in 59th and Morocco in 62nd.
On the global stage, Spain continue to top the women’s ranking, with the United States in second, followed by England, Germany and Japan.
