Cape Verde have withdrawn from the planned international friendly matches against Nigeria’s Nigeria women’s national football team, forcing the Nigeria Football Federation into a late scramble for a replacement opponent.
The two fixtures were originally scheduled to take place on April 15 and April 18 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, as part of the Super Falcons’ build-up to major upcoming competitions.
With the withdrawal coming on short notice, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is now racing against time to secure an alternative opponent, although there are concerns that the timing may make it difficult to finalise a replacement.
The Super Falcons are still expected to begin a training camp in Abuja this weekend, where preparations will continue for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for July.

The cancelled friendlies were designed to give the team competitive rhythm under head coach Justine Madugu, especially after their recent double-header against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in the previous international window.
The development leaves a gap in Nigeria’s preparation calendar, with uncertainty now surrounding whether the team will still get the planned match practice before the continental tournament.
