Wike-Backed PDP Faction Disowns Turaki-led Meeting With ADC

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has distanced the party from a recent engagement between a rival bloc led by Taminu Turaki and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging members to disregard the meeting.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, clarified that the party neither approved nor participated in the interaction with the ADC.

He emphasised that the PDP has not entered into any official or unofficial discussions with the party or its representatives.

Mohammed maintained that individuals who attended the meeting did so in their private capacities and should not be seen as acting on behalf of the PDP.

He described claims suggesting otherwise as unfounded and not representative of the party’s official stance, advising both party faithful and the public to ignore them.

He also noted that preparations for the PDP’s upcoming primaries are on track, with details on timelines and guidelines to be announced in due course.

The engagement, which lasted approximately two hours from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., centred on national issues and prospects for collaboration between political parties.

Among those present were former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana; former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu; members of the PDP National Working Committee; and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Other notable attendees included former governors Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi. Also in attendance were the ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, along with other prominent political figures.
