Taraba Police Issue Security Mandate for Festive Charity Events, Public Giveaways

As the Yuletide season approaches, the Taraba State Police Command has introduced new security protocols for large-scale charitable events to prevent tragedies and ensure public order.

In a statement released Tuesday, the 23rd of December, 2025, the Command officially directed all organizations, wealthy individuals, and non-profits planning mass gift distributions to provide advance notice to the nearest police formation. This proactive measure is designed to facilitate crowd control and prevent the chaotic stampedes that have historically marred public giveaways.

The Command emphasized that early coordination allows for the strategic deployment of officers to manage the high volume of attendees often drawn to holiday distributions. By working alongside philanthropists, the police aim to transform potentially volatile gatherings into orderly community events.

According to the statement: “In a statement issued on Tuesday in Jalingo, the Command said prior notification would allow the police to deploy sufficient personnel, manage crowds effectively and prevent incidents such as stampedes that often occur during public giveaways.”

The police highlighted that this collaborative approach is a proven strategy: “The police noted that collaboration with event organizers has, in previous festive seasons, helped to safeguard lives and property while promoting community harmony.”

Under the leadership of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Taraba State Police Command has transitioned to a heightened security footing. Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, confirmed that the state’s security architecture has been fortified to protect residents and travelers alike.

The Command assured those returning to Taraba for the holidays that “all necessary resources” have been mobilized to deter criminal elements. However, they stressed that public safety is a shared responsibility, urging citizens to act as the “eyes and ears” of the force.

“The Taraba Police Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or security concerns to the nearest police station, stressing that timely information is critical to maintaining peace during the festive season.”

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Command’s ultimate goal: “The Command reiterated its commitment to working closely with the public to ensure a secure and joyful yuletide celebration across the state.”
