Tinubu Appoints Retired General Famadewa As Homeland Security Adviser

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence-led response framework.

The appointment, announced on Monday, May 11, 2026, was contained in a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the statement, the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing inter-agency collaboration and improving national security coordination in response to evolving threats.

The circular was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued through the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

Famadewa, a retired senior military officer with over three decades of experience, previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021.

He played a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence coordination architecture during the period.

He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, designed to improve intelligence sharing among key security agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement, he served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, focusing on policing reforms and civil-security relations.

He is also the author of Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which addresses frameworks for improved collaboration among security institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Famadewa’s experience would support ongoing efforts to enhance intelligence integration, strengthen coordination and improve Nigeria’s homeland security architecture.
