Tinubu Hails Nigeria’s 91.45% Aviation Safety Rating By ICAO

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s 91.45 per cent aviation safety rating by the International Civil Aviation Organization, describing it as a major milestone for the country’s air transport sector.

The rating was achieved under ICAO’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme, which evaluates countries on their ability to manage aviation safety risks and comply with international standards.

According to the audit team, Nigeria recorded its highest-ever Effective Implementation (EI) score of 91.45 per cent during a recent assessment at the headquarters of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority in Abuja.

The score places Nigeria significantly above both the West African regional average of 61.1 per cent and the global average of 70.4 per cent, strengthening international confidence in the country’s aviation system.

President Tinubu noted that the achievement aligns with his administration’s priority of enhancing infrastructure and positioning the aviation sector as a key driver of economic growth.

He also commended the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, led by Festus Keyamo, for its role in improving safety compliance and advancing reforms in the sector.

The President urged the ministry to sustain the momentum by implementing all recommendations from the ICAO audit team to further improve Nigeria’s global standing in aviation safety.

The statement was shared on Friday via X by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The improved rating is expected to boost investor confidence and enhance Nigeria’s credibility as a destination for aviation-related investments, including infrastructure development, maintenance services, and airline operations.
