Another aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines has been grounded following a bird strike incident that occurred while landing in Abuja.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Chibuile Uloka, who disclosed that the affected aircraft was an Airbus A320-200 operating Flight UN0515 from Port Harcourt to the nation’s capital.
According to the statement, the aircraft was scheduled to land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 3:45 p.m. when it suffered a bird strike that impacted its nose section.
Uloka assured passengers that safety procedures were strictly adhered to and that there was no compromise to the wellbeing of those on board.

“In line with our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the aircraft has been immediately withdrawn from operations to undergo thorough technical inspections and any required maintenance,” the airline stated.
The latest incident brings to six the number of bird strike cases recorded by the airline between January and April 2026, a trend it described as “deeply concerning” due to its implications for aviation safety and operational efficiency.
As a result of the grounding, the airline warned that some flights across its network may experience delays or cancellations, urging passengers to remain patient while efforts are made to manage disruptions.
“Our team is working diligently to minimise disruptions and support affected travellers. Safety remains our top priority,” the statement added.
The recurrence of bird strike incidents has continued to raise concerns within Nigeria’s aviation sector, highlighting the need for strengthened wildlife hazard management around airports.
