President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
The President applauded the people of Ekiti State for what he described as their peaceful and orderly participation in the poll, as well as for placing their confidence in Oyebanji.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also expressed appreciation to security agencies for ensuring law and order throughout the election period.
He further directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on its performance by improving the conduct of free, fair, credible and peaceful elections, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State in August and the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, Oyebanji’s re-election marks a historic milestone, making him the first governor in Ekiti State to secure consecutive terms in office.
“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” the statement said.
The President also highlighted the achievements recorded during Oyebanji’s first term, noting progress in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development under the BAO agenda.

He described the renewed mandate as “a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-centred governance.”
Tinubu urged the governor to remain gracious in victory and to ensure inclusiveness by carrying all stakeholders along as he begins another term in office.
“The President also commends all those who contested the election with the governor for exercising their democratic rights, saying it is now time to rally round Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance,” the statement added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier declared Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election, after he polled 319,224 votes, defeating his closest rivals from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dare Bejide, across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to work closely with the Ekiti State Government in delivering more development projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also prayed for continued wisdom, strength and good health for the governor as he serves the people of Ekiti State in his second term.
