President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address Nigerians at 7am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The nationwide broadcast was announced by the State House on Wednesday in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, the President’s address will form part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th year of independence.
The State House urged television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media outlets, to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.

The address comes as Nigerians prepare to commemorate the country’s independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960.
President Tinubu is expected to use the occasion to speak to the nation on the country’s journey since independence and current national issues.
The 2026 anniversary marks 66 years since Nigeria attained independence, with the country continuing to grapple with economic, security and development challenges.
