President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation of the 2025 capital budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026.
Tinubu assented to the bill on Wednesday, September 30, a day after the Senate and House of Representatives approved the extension.
The development was disclosed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The Presidency said the additional three months would enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies to complete ongoing capital projects and utilise funds already appropriated for them.
The National Assembly approved the extension on Tuesday, September 29, following an executive request for additional time to implement projects under the 2025 Appropriation Act.

The latest amendment marks the fourth extension of the capital budget’s implementation period.
Originally scheduled to end on December 31, 2025, the deadline was moved to March 31, 2026, then June 30 and September 30 before the latest extension.
During debate on the amendment, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele said the extension would give agencies more time to complete projects for which funds had been appropriated and released.
He said the measure extended the implementation window for existing allocations rather than providing a fresh appropriation.
With the President’s assent, eligible capital projects under the 2025 budget can now be implemented until December 31, 2026.
The Presidency said the action reflected continued cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
