Tinubu’s Envoys Officially Cleared For UK, France, UN Postings

Nigeria has formally accredited its envoys to the United Kingdom, France, and the United Nations after receiving agreement from the host countries.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, presented the Letters of Credence on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, authorising the diplomats to assume their posts.

The accredited envoys are Aminu Dalhatu (United Kingdom), Ayodele Oke (France), and Jimoh Ibrahim (Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York).

Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the Letters of Credence as a formal introduction and authorization for the envoys to represent Nigeria’s interests and request recognition from host governments.

The accreditation follows President Tinubu’s approval of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners on Friday, March 7, 2026, confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.

The postings include a mix of career and non-career diplomats, reflecting a balance between professional experience and strategic political appointments.

So far, 10 host countries, including the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Ireland, Qatar, the Republic of Benin, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal, and Sierra Leone, have granted agrément.

Approvals from other nations are still pending as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs completes consultations.

The accredited envoys are expected to proceed to their missions in the coming weeks, with officials emphasizing the deployment’s role in strengthening bilateral relations, promoting national interests, and enhancing Nigeria’s presence in multilateral institutions.
