Troops of the Nigerian Army under 1 Division/Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully foiled a bandit attack and neutralised one suspected insurgent during a snap ambush operation in the Maraban Rido general area of Kaduna State.
The operation followed a distress call received late on Wednesday, 22 January 2026, reporting the presence of armed bandits who had rustled livestock from Anguwan Fulan village in the Rido axis.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops were deployed to the area and laid a hasty ambush.
This was contained in a statement by the Acting Army Public Relations Officer, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Capt. Bello Nuradeen, on Saturday.
According to the statement, troops overwhelmed the terrorists with intense fire, compelling them to abandon their loot and flee.
Some of the rustled livestock were recovered during the operation.
Further exploitation of the ambush site in the early hours of Thursday, 23 January 2026, led to the neutralisation of one terrorist.

Troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Commending the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, charged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and continue to pursue criminal elements in their hideouts.
The GOC reassured members of the public of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, while urging citizens to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.
