Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have uncovered a suspected gunrunner’s hideout and recovered arms during a coordinated raid in Plateau State.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, 3, was executed by personnel of Sector 2, deployed in Gashish, following credible intelligence on illicit arms trafficking activities in Ranbiri Village, Kafi Abu, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
According to a statement on Thursday by the Media Information Officer, Samson Nantip Zhakom, the suspect escaped moments before troops arrived at the location.
However, a detailed search of the premises led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and communication equipment believed to be used in facilitating criminal operations.
All recovered items have been secured, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Major Zhakom, noted that the troops remain resolute in dismantling criminal networks and blocking the supply chains that enable attacks across the joint operations area.
He added that the soldiers are highly motivated and committed to ensuring the protection of civilians across Plateau State.
