Troops of Operation UDO KA have recovered and exhumed the remains of a community leader allegedly murdered by suspected criminals in Imo State, following intelligence gathered from the interrogation of recently arrested suspects.
In a statement posted on it’s official Facebook page on Monday, the operation was carried out by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDO KA as part of the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II.
According to the military, the remains of the late Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community were recovered after one of the suspects, arrested during separate operations against violent criminal groups, confessed to participating in the killing and led troops to the burial site.
The breakthrough followed recent intelligence-led operations that resulted in the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen military weapons.
On August 2, 2026, the suspect guided troops to a shallow grave located inside Umudike Forest, identified as one of the gang’s operational camps, where the remains of the late community leader were successfully exhumed.
The exercise was witnessed by members of the deceased’s family, vigilante operatives from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, as well as representatives of the Aggah and Umudike communities.
Following the recovery, the family provided a coffin and ambulance to facilitate a dignified burial for the deceased in line with local customs and traditions.

Reacting to the development, the Commander of Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the peaceful repose of Chief Anyadu’s soul.
He assured the family and residents of Aggah Community that those responsible for the killing would face prosecution in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The military reaffirmed that Operation UDO KA remains committed to dismantling criminal networks across the South-East, bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice and ensuring victims’ families receive closure through lawful processes.
It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, describing public cooperation as essential to sustaining ongoing security operations in the region.
