Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue followed a swift response to credible intelligence received in the late afternoon of August 8, 2026, regarding the abduction of commuters travelling through the Magazu area of Tsafe.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, Col. Aliyu Danja, the Joint Task Force, troops, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force deployed in Tsafe, immediately mobilised to the area and intercepted the terrorists while they were moving the abducted passengers to an unknown destination.
The security forces engaged the terrorists with effective firepower, forcing the criminals to abandon the victims and flee into adjoining bushes.
It was gathered that all 33 passengers were rescued safely without casualties and are undergoing the necessary procedures following their recovery.

The Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their prompt response, courage and professionalism, describing the successful rescue as another demonstration of the military’s commitment to protecting civilians and denying terrorists freedom of action across the North-West.
The Command reaffirmed its determination to safeguard major transportation routes and protect commuters from terrorist attacks and kidnapping.
It also urged residents and road users to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements to security agencies.
The latest rescue adds to the series of successful operations by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA aimed at disrupting terrorist activities, rescuing abducted civilians and restoring security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
