Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnap victims during an operation along the Dandume-Sheme Road in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims were rescued on Thursday, September 3, 2026, following a distress call from residents who alerted security forces to the activities of suspected terrorists operating along the route.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police, swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving the alert.
Danja said the security forces engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush.
He said, “Acting on the distress call, troops in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police swiftly mobilised to the scene and made contact with the terrorists, overwhelming them with superior firepower.”
He added that the terrorists fled in disarray, abandoning the kidnapped victims as they escaped the advancing troops.
“Exploitation of the general area led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims along with two vehicles used by the terrorists,” Danja said.

He disclosed that the rescued victims and the recovered vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, Dandume, for further necessary action.
Danja said troops had continued to dominate the area through aggressive patrols aimed at denying the terrorists freedom of movement and preventing further attacks along the Dandume-Sheme corridor.
He said the successful operation demonstrated the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
Danja urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA appreciates the general public for its continuous support and urges them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their localities to the nearest security outpost for prompt action,” he said.
