Political activities in Osun State were overshadowed by tragedy on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, after two separate incidents resulted in the deaths of supporters associated with opposing political camps, raising fresh concerns about safety ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The first incident occurred in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area, where Ajayi Aderogba, widely known as Rogba, was fatally shot on Tuesday, June 23, while preparations were ongoing for a political gathering.
His death sparked unrest in the community, with residents taking to the streets in protest as political stakeholders traded accusations over the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The Imole Campaign Council identified Aderogba as a supporter of Governor Ademola Adeleke and claimed efforts had been made to obstruct the planned event before the attack took place.
Responding to the allegations, the Director-General of the APC Governorship Campaign Council and member of the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, distanced himself and the party from the incident, insisting that security agencies should be allowed to establish the facts through a proper investigation.

Hours later, another fatal incident was recorded in Ede when a truck drove into a procession organized by supporters of the All Progressives Congress  in the Oke Gada area of the town.
The crash claimed the life of AbdulRasaq Ahmed and left seven others injured. One of the victims was said to be in critical condition.
According to eyewitness accounts, traffic management officials were on duty in the area when the truck allegedly entered the section of the road being used by campaign supporters, striking several participants.
Those injured in the accident were evacuated to hospitals within Ede and surrounding communities for medical attention.
Following the incident, APC deputy governorship candidate Benjamin Adereti paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased and called for a full-scale inquiry into the circumstances that led to the crash.
The two fatalities have added to growing anxiety over security in Osun as political parties step up campaigns ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.
