Two Senior Terrorist Commanders Surrender To Troops In Borno

Two senior terrorist commanders have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, marking another significant breakthrough in the military’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in Nigeria’s North-East.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer, Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the two commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure, were subsequently transported to Maiduguri, where they arrived at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5 and are currently in military custody.

Captain Goni said the surrendered commanders are undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation by military authorities.

During preliminary interrogation, he revealed that the duo occupied influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possessed extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command structure, and logistics network.

“Initial intelligence obtained from the debriefing has provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, sustainment mechanisms, and support networks,” the statement said.

The military said the intelligence gathered is expected to strengthen ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting, and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North-East theatre.

Operation HADIN KAI described the surrender as another major setback for the insurgent group and a validation of the effectiveness of sustained military offensives being conducted in collaboration with security partners.

The statement noted that relentless land and air operations, backed by enhanced intelligence efforts, have continued to restrict the terrorists’ freedom of movement, degrade their combat capability, and weaken their command-and-control structures.

“Increasingly, terrorist leaders and fighters are finding continued resistance untenable, compelling them to abandon the insurgency and surrender to troops,” Goni added.

The military further stated that the latest surrender underscores the growing disintegration of the terrorist organisation and reflects the cumulative impact of sustained operations across the theatre.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining operational momentum until all terrorist elements are neutralised or compelled to surrender, while continuing to exploit actionable intelligence and intensify offensive operations to restore lasting peace and stability in the North-East.
